TechoSolara: FAQ

Contents

General

What is TechoSolara?

TechoSolara is a smart solar viability assessment tool for Android. It uses your device's tools, GPS and gyroscope to fill in the information it needs, and solar arc mathematics to instantly determine the solar generation potential of a property - before you engage a solar engineer.

How much does it cost?

TechoSolara is a single low-cost purchase with no subscription, no ads, and no ongoing charges.

Does it work without an internet connection?

Yes. All calculations are performed on-device. TechoSolara works in areas with no mobile or data coverage.

Does TechoSolara store or share my location data?

No. TechoSolara employs Privacy by Design. Location data is used only for the calculation and is never stored, shared, or sent to any server. It is fully GDPR compliant.

For Homeowners

What do I need to use TechoSolara?

An Android phone. Stand at the property, open the app, and it does the rest.

What does the score mean?

TechoSolara rates solar potential as Poor, OK, Good, or Excellent — giving you a clear indication of whether solar panels are worth pursuing before spending money on a site survey.

Does TechoSolara tell me how many kilowatts I'll generate?

No. TechoSolara is a viability filter, not an engineering tool. It tells you whether solar is worth pursuing — a solar engineer will provide precise output figures.

Can it assess east and west facing roofs?

Yes — and this is a key strength of TechoSolara. Many tools only assess a single roof. TechoSolara supports up to three roof aspects simultaneously, meaning east and west facing roofs are properly evaluated. And full support for both hemispheres to assess whether a north or south roof are better in your location.

TechoSolara not only compares your multiple roofs, but it can assess them as a single installation. This allows you to see whether one roof, or multiple roofs will give you the results you need. With or without a battery.

For EPC Assessors

How does TechoSolara help with EPC assessments?

TechoSolara allows you to instantly validate solar viability on-site, making your EPC recommendations more accurate and meaningful without waiting for a specialist engineer.

Is it accurate enough for professional use?

TechoSolara uses established solar arc mathematics based on GPS location, roof pitch, and orientation. It is designed as a pre-engineer filter tool — it gives reliable directional assessments, not engineering-grade output predictions.

For Local Authority Planners

How can TechoSolara support net zero planning goals?

By identifying properties where solar is genuinely viable, TechoSolara helps planners target resources effectively and supports data-driven sustainability decisions at a local level.

Is it suitable for use across a housing stock assessment?

Phase 1 supports individual property assessment. Licensing for bulk or portfolio assessment is planned for Phase 2.
